Do you think before about the food you are eating and how it can significantly affects all your body even your skin??

Scientists suggested that food play a role in acne-prone skin. However, Not only food causes acne, It is also related to other factors like your genes , life style , stress, hormonal changes and so on.,

After a meal, blood glucose level rises and insulin hormone is secreted in response to this rise in glucose according to this food glycemic index.

Glycemic index (GI) : It describes the capacity of food to raise blood glucose in normal glucose tolerant individuals.

Food with high glycemic index may be associated with high risk  postprandial hyperglycemia.  Such food also increases the risk of acne

Also, When your body secretes more insulin in order to lower blood glucose to its normal level, It affects other hormones as growth hormone, glucocorticoids and androgen all can boost oil production  

Androgens represent the most important of all of these hormones  especially at the age of puberty, because androgens stimulate sebum production and acne formation in both sexes.

 What are the main foods trigger acne?

1. Milk & Dairy products

As milk contains high level of hormones that can be let down in cow milk during its pregnancy. Thus, promoting oil production and blocking skin pores.

2. Alcoholic drinks

As they are loaded with sugary additives. Sugar is an inflammatory ingredient as alcohols. both promote your body to secrete more oils that triggers acne formation.

3. Carbohydrates

Like white bread, white rice, cakes, pizza, biscuits and pastries all can exacerbate acne breakouts as sugars and carbohydrates in general are inflammatory ingredients as we mentioned above, in addition, they are high in their glycemic index and this explains how  can food affect your blood sugar.

4. Chocolate:

As it contains milk and sugar. both are inflammatory ingredients so, Try to eat dark chocolate as it contains less sugar and milk.

5. Potatoes

Especially fried potatoes because they are graded as a high glycemic food that can raise your blood glucose level leading to more inflammations that can exacerbate acne formation.

6. Saturated Oily Food

As cheese, fried chicken,meat, fish and potatoes, all saturated  fats even trans fats trigger acne formation as eating more oily food can produce oils that can block hair follicles in your skin.

What are the better foods to avoid acne breakouts?

1. Antioxidants

People with acne have a low levels of antioxidants that protect skin cells from damage by harmful substances known as free radicals. Vitamin C  known as ascorbic acid is considered a potent antioxidant  present in fresh orange, lemon juices and is also found in kiwi and strawberry.

2. Vitamin E & Selenium

Present in nuts as almonds, peanuts, walnuts. They are  natural antioxidant food that prevent skin damage and aging. Adding of rosemary plant in your food  is also very  useful as a rich source of anti oxidant  and anti inflammatory chemicals because of its high content of phenolic diterpene components including carnosic acid, carnosol, rosmanol, and epirosmanol, which are all playing a crucial role in preventing oxidation of cells , it also has a biological effects as antimicrobial, antibacterial, and anti fungal effects. So, it prevents recurrent inflammation and boost your immune system as well.  

3. Vitamin A

Present in carrots , leafy green vegetables, fish, beef liver and eggs. vitamin A is most commonly known for its benefits for skin. it helps in epithelial cells regeneration and reduce inflammation making your skin look younger. It can be applied topically to your face to reduce inflammation.

4. Zinc

Presents in meat, fish, sea food, oysters and eggs. It is very important for killing certain kinds of bacteria that causes acne. It also stops the body making chemicals that promote inflammation.

5. Omega 3 Fatty acids

Present in oily fishes like tuna, macherel and salmon. The healthy unsaturated fatty acids present in these oily fishes lowering inflammation in your body and prevent acne breakouts.

6. High Fiber Food

Present in apples, carrots, beans, legumes, spinach, green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, unprocessed fruits and vegetables.  High fiber in food controls your blood sugar, prevent inflammations and acne breakouts.
